Baking bread is about as "down home" as you can get...and it fills the whole house with the most wonderful smell. It isn't as lost an art as you might think, and actually, making bread from scratch isn't nearly as difficult as you might think. Once you make your first batch of homemade bread, you'll never want to buy bread again!

Making bread dough requires very few kitchen tools or appliances. In fact, you can make bread dough with just a bowl and a wooden spoon. Bread machines are nice, but using a machine robs you of the opportunity to work with the dough and contemplate simpler times when making bread was as essential as plowing the lower 40.

There are a few "tricks" to actually making the bread dough and once you've mastered the concept of "proofing the yeast" and gotten an inside scoop on just how to put bread dough on to rise, you will wonder why you waited so long to learn how to bake bread.

Jan's Dough offers free recipes, illustrated tutorials, and all the tips and tricks you need for making great sourdough bread. The recipes come with free printable recipe and ingredients lists (that you can take to the market to get what you need). The illustrated tutorials help to guide you through the bread-baking process and even give you step-by-step instructions for how to knead bread dough.

Other recipes and valuable tips are available, as well. Many include their own illustrated tutorials.
